-> This Month’s Tip: Lessons From a Book Launch, Part 1

My eighth book, Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green: Winning Strategies to Improve Your Profits and Your Planet (co-authored with Jay Conrad Levinson), was released just over a month ago, and I’ve been completely consumed with launch activities for several months leading up to the release.

Working with a major publisher for the first time in 18 years, I’m keenly aware of the publisher’s high expectations, and doing what I can to make waves. Here’s a bit of what I’ve done… (Click here to continue reading)

-> Hear & Meet Shel
  • Sue Oliver will have me on her Passions and Possibilities radio podcast on Wednesday, March 3rd, at 8 pm ET/5:00pm PT. She writes: “During each show we interview bold, talented individuals who have leaped fully into their passions for serving others in the world (aka Passioneers ). That is, they stopped playing small and are living very LARGE as they make the world a better place! These amazing guests share their ups, downs, tips, and wisdom, as they stay committed to their dreams, regardless of circumstances.  With these stories, we hope to inspire others who may be scared or discouraged about their own leap into service. We air at 9am and 5pm PST every Wednesday, and we invite you to join us live with questions or in archive. We love your participation.” Listen in (and ask questions) at 347-205-9038.
  • John Ritskowitz, a/k/a the Marketing Medic, will be interviewing both me and my Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green co-author Jay Conrad Levinson Tuesday, March 16, 3 pm ET/noon PT. This should be interesting, because John is coming up from Connecticut to do the interview live, and Jay will join us by phone from Florida. John and I have known each other online for several years, but have never met. So he’s coming up for the afternoon, we’ll have lunch together, I’ll show him around the farm, I’ll tape an interview with him for my Clean and Green Club, and then he’ll interview me and Jay. By that time, we should be all warmed up and will probably head into some pretty advanced territory. https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/481396353
  • March 24, I’m doing a teleseminar for Stacy Karacostas on Green and ethical business success: stacy (at) success-stream.com
  • April 25, I’ll be speaking on collaborating with a co-author at the American Society of Journalists and Authors conference in New York. http://asja.org/wc/2010/
  • April 29, 3 pm ET/noon PT, I’ll be presenting on Grassroots Book Marketing Strategies for Stephanie Chandler’s virtual Nonfiction Book Writers Conference: Contact janica@authoritypublishing.com
  • May 8, I’ll be speaking once again on book marketing at CAPA University in Hartford, CT (also in negotiation to speak at both IBPA-U and Book Expo America later that month)
-> Friends Who Help
  • Here’s something really cool: 15 days, each with a 15-minute training on practical steps to go more Green, from LEED architect and Green blogger Julie Gabrielli. The price is absurdly reasonable ($45, which works out to $3 per session), and she’s offering a no-risk guarantee (full refund if you don’t feel you’ve gotten good value by the end of the fifth session). The sessions air at 1 pm ET/10 a.m. PT starting March first, and if you can’t make it, you get the recording. I listened to a preview call and was impressed by the focus on specific actions you can take, coupled with a well-known example. I’ll be listening to the series, too–can always use more Green tips. http://bit.ly/d7dKeW (affiliate link).
  • My co-author, Jay Conrad Levinson, “the Father of Guerilla Marketing,” has a few seats left in his next Guerrilla Marketing Intensive, at his Florida home (where I visited recently). 21 hours of training over three days, for $4997 (payable in up to four installments). Limited to just ten people, so this is pretty in-depth.  http://bit.ly/9zVlnX (affiliate link).
  • Got a book on aging, health, or caregiving? Jacqueline Marcel, author of Elder Rage, is looking for guests on her ‘Coping with Caregiving’ radio show, which has been running for seven years: http://www.wsRadio.com/CopingWithCaregiving.

Note: As is the case for most professional reviewers, many of the books I review on this site have been provided by the publisher or author, at no cost to me. I've also reviewed books that I bought, because they were worthy of your time. And I've also received dozens of review copies at no charge that do not get reviewed, either because they are not worthy or because they don't meet the subject criteria for this column, or simply because I haven't gotten around to them yet, since I only review one book per month. I have far more books in my office than I will ever read, and the receipt of a free book does not affect my review.
